The power to be well, all in a thought

IceonDandelionLargeThere’s an important part to the wellness equation that you may not pay as much attention to – and that item happens to exist between your ears.

Yes, it’s your brain … or, in other words, how you think, what you focus on, what your state of mind is.

Seems hokey, woo-woo, not that important, impossible? Hang on! There actually is a lot of proof that tuning up your mind can make a big impact on your health.

Instead of filling you in with all the proof, I decided I’d just share a story that has stunned even me. Well, sort of – I was initially surprised, but then felt the true knowing that this was possible immediately kick in. Maybe this will help you believe, too, and, with that, gain motivation to work on changing your outlook for the better.

I had my annual visit with the optometrist recently. I’ve had an eye disease, called keratoconus, for years. When I first was diagnosed, in my 20s, I was floored, stunned, upset, beside myself. Because the possibility of keratoconus is that you can go blind one day. NOT good. Would I never see my children’s sweet faces again? How would I do my work? Etc., etc. Yes, I went down that hole.

But, as the years progressed, I stopped putting as much focus on it. Sure, I did what I needed to do and made sure I got great care. My eyes have changed over the years, with my vision getting worse over time. Yet, it was okay – I could see well enough to do pretty much everything anyone else does.

However, with all I’ve read on the power of mindset this past year or so, I decided I was going to believe I could see better. When possible, I didn’t wear either my glasses or my contacts. And I’d note – hmmm, look, I can see that … and that … and that. Wow, pretty good, I’d exclaim! I had nearly a year to play the game, if you will, of better sight. And nearly a year of no proof that I was crazy!

So, back to this year’s eye exam: There I am, sitting in the chair, as my dear doc goes through all the testing. She seems a little baffled, seems to take a little longer. Then she sits down and tells me: Well, Cindy, it looks like the vision is stable in your right eye this year, and the vision in your left eye actually has improved!

Wow!! That’s major for me. In the past, my right eye was the one leading this process of deterioration. For it to be stable from the previous year is huge. And then, for the vision in my other eye to actually improve? Never had happened before.

To me, that’s ‘bout all the proof I need. There’s nothing else I’ve changed that would impact my eyes; this has never happened in decades of eye exams. To top that off, I just read recently of a man who decided to stop thinking he needed reading glasses (oh, yeah, I’m so trying that one on next). Guess what? He doesn’t anymore! Pretty great, huh?

For you, I hope this sparks your curiosity, and, even more important, your willingness to step out of the box and try something different. You do not have anything to lose. Miracles happen just because we believe. Start with believing you can be well.

  1. Hi, Cindy,

Of course, this is basically what I’ve been talking about for ages now…our thinking, our consciousness…AFFECTS everything we experience. So, I love it that more and more people are understanding this power, and it’s lovely to read about your eyesight improvement!

    Many blessings,
    Nancy

  2. Thank you for providing more proof that our mind and our body can heal itself! I had a woman tell me a story of how she was to have eye surgery, but after buying her kids a pinball machine (which she played with too!) ~ she returned to the eye doctor. He was astonished at the amazing healing/improvement of her eyes. He asked, “What did you DO?” She realized that all that random eye movement in many directions was like aerobics for her eyes – and they had healed themselves! Now, at night just before I go to sleep I do my own “pinball game” with my eyes and now, with your story, I will start selectively taking off my glasses too … I’ll keep you posted.

    Namaste’

Great story! Thanks so much for sharing it. It just goes to show that there is so much we can do to improve our health ourselves. Personally, I love it that I’m that much in charge! Sure, I have to stay accountable to doing what matters to remain well, but I’d much rather do that than feel helpless and unwell.
